Local Community
Arran's permanent population of around five thousand comprises people from all walks of life, with diverse opinions on every subject imaginable. Much interest is expressed in local issues, especially if these threaten our carefully conserved island for the sake of commercial opportunity. This is not, however, a community stuck in the past. With the earliest inhabitants dating back to 8,000 BC, changing with the times has proved a successful strategy, especially for local enterprise and tourism.
Today, our wonderful island attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world, who appreciate its unspoilt natural beauty, laid-back lifestyle and warm welcome. We also welcome your interaction with this community website, no matter where you live.
